Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal

Christopher Moore

While some might find it irreverent or even blasphemous, this book made me laugh and reminded me what I love about my religion. I couldn’t put it down. If you can take a tongue and cheek, yet still critical, view of the origins of Christianity, please pick this one up.

Shopgirl

Steve Martin

Reading it 2 times, I hung on for the last word each time... Steve Martin has accomplished a beautiful piece of work in only 130 pages. The book is intelligent, enlightening and addicting. The movie that was based off the book was good, but honestly didn’t touch how charming the shy character truly is.

When You Are Engulfed In Flames

David Sedaris

I love all of Sedaris’s books, but there’s a new, quiet optimism in the background of When You Are Engulfed in Flames that elevates each story.  It’s the perfect addition to your beach bag or carry on.

The Lovely Bones

Alice Sebold

A story about a young girl who was brutally raped and killed is watching her family from heaven and coming to terms with her own death. The great thing about this book is if you don’t like to read, the movie is currently being produced and is due out in 2008.

Books, Books and More Books!

Kurt Vonnegat, Ceasar Milan, Sharon Osbourne

I am a regular fixture at my local public library in downtown Tampa.  The library itself is huge.  So many choices! I recently picked up The Dog Whisperer's Book / Easy How to's for a more well adjusted dog and owner.  I find it fascinating that it has made such a marked difference in my dog Rocco. Sharon Osbourne's Book is amazing.  I totally admire this woman,  She has gone through hell and back with her husband Ozzy and her kids.  As well as managing Ozzy.  She is the picture of strength.  This woman rocks it! And of course, one of my fave authors, Kurt Vonnegut's book, Bluebeard.  I am still in the progress of reading this delightful book.  I am loving it so far.  Kurt is an amazing writer, with a witty voice.  I will let you know how it was as soon as I am finished. If you have a chance please try checking out the above books I have mentioned.  Definitely worth the read!

Plain Truth

Jodi Picoult

I’ve recently started reading anything and everything Jodi Picoult has written. Thankfully, there’s quite a selection to choose from. My favorite so far has been her novel, Plain Truth. She has a great way of combining psychological drama and courtroom suspense with insights into complex human relationships. One her books is about to be released as a movie, My Sister’s Keeper, supposedly starring Cameron Diaz. One of many to come, I’m sure.

Nineteen Minutes

Jodi Picoult

This is an amazingly powerful story about a school shooting and the lives affected. And by lives, I do mean EVERY life. Picoult does a wonderful job in all of her books of attaching so much feeling to every one of her characters, you leave feeling as if you have made a friend. I laughed and cried with Josie, (the main character) and her mom as they sort through the ins and outs of high school. Highly recommended. Also highly recommended by Picoult are THE PACT, and MY SISTER’S KEEPER. (Looking forward to the movie.)
