I hope that we all, by now, have had a chance to pick up our tome of choice. I would LOVE to start with The TIme Traveler’s Wife. Did any of you fall in love with it from the very beginning, as I did? Are you having issues keeping up with the dates? Let’s talk about it. I will be using the discussion questions included in the book, along with some of my very own. If you have other points or observations, go for it! I am also capable at this point, of holding a discussion on Bel Canto, among the others I listed in the previous entry. Let’s get started!

OK, now that it's the official selection, I'm going to pick it up tonight and jump right in! (I confess I'm a voracious reader and consumed 10 books in a two-week trip to Hawaii in December. So I'll probably be finished tomorrow! I read Kite Runner, in its entirety, on the flight there.) "Trust Life's unfolding..."

Scratch that. Forgot to go to the bookstore. My memory cells just don't function like they used to... :-) "Trust Life's unfolding..."

I got the book and didn't even make it to the first official page before I just had to say I LOVE THAT POEM that precedes the Prologue!
Love After Love -
The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Read it and listened to it on audiobook. Any thoughts so far? My own reaction was a bit of a roller coaster. Can't wait to share!

I would love to join the book club! I am going to the library right after work to get both books, and will start The Time Traveler's Wife today. Since we have a long weekend I should be able to get a lot of reading done!

I used to be part of a blogger book club and we read this book. It was really good!
Here's a post on my blog about the book:

So, in typical life fashion, I was not able to get to the library in time to read over the long weekend. But I did get it as soon as I could and am about halfway through. (Life in the forms of work, husband, son, and football practice does not leave much reading time). Anyway, I am so in love with this book. I've never been in a book club before, so I don't know how to act, but here are a few thoughts so far:
the library had this book categorized as a fantasy, which I suppose it is with the time travel and all. But it doesn't read like a fantasy. It reads like reality - you actually believe that this could be happening. I think the relationship between Clare and Henry is amazing, but I wonder, would they have gotten together and gotten married if he had not gone back in time and told her they would? I also find it interesting that Clare (so far) is the character who seems kind of flighty and emotional, very creative and artsy, and prone to doing things on a whim. Henry, on the other hand, seems much more disciplined and down to earth - he's a librarian, he runs every day even in the pouring rain, he tries to thinks things through completely before doing them. Yet it is Henry who is actually unstable and time travels. And yes, I sometimes have trouble keeping up with the time changes, especially when Henry and Clare run into time traveling Henry. But still the question remains - is everything just fate, or are they creating their reality, Henry when he visits child Clare and knows their history, and Clare when she meets 20something Henry and is now the one who knows the history while he is clueless. Any thoughts?

Im probably late on the comments; you have most likely moved to a new book. However, I absolutely LOVED Time Travelers Wife. I thought it was amazingly intellectual and intelligent. I read it on a recommendation from a friend and read it at breakneck speed. The intelligence of it all kept it moving, rather than slowing it down as with other books I've read. It was romantic as well as thought-provoking. It was scientific without being too technical. Amazing!

Just wondering where everyone had gotten off to. I finished The Time Traveler's Wife and Bel Canto. I loved them both and am ready for some new suggestions!
