I am a 30-something single mom, recently employed by my undergraduate alma mater after 12 years in the public school trenches, who secretly calls herself a writer. I'm looking to be less secretive....

Writing wrongs

Friday, November, 14, 2008

So apparently it has been four months since my last post. Well then. I have to admit, I was a little surprised I was even able to log in, but then I remembered where I am, and true sisters wouldn’t lock a girl out like that.

I’m sure you’re just dying to know where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing (other than developing my sense of sarcasm), so here are the past 4 months in a nutshell:

  • I quit my job of 12 years
  • I started a new and totally different job
  • I still have not gotten used to my new job, even though it’s great and was definitely the right decision for me
  • My daughter has morphed into a Big Kid with Attitude and Advance Speaking Abilities, and she’s not even 2 yet
  • I had to make the decision to put my 13 year old dog to sleep
  • I put my house on the market and am trying to purchase a new house
  • I had my very first actual panic attack
  • I have been suffering from something very like writer’s block, except I have plenty to say but can’t seem to mobilise myself to actually write. I’m thinking it’s because of every single thing I just listed above.

As stressful as some of those things are, the absolute worst of all is the absence of writing. Not writing makes me crazy, and not in the euphemistic way. I’m generally not a big talker, but I have a need for creativity and written communication that is directly connected to my mental and physical health. I also have a need for personal connection, and that’s what brought me back here. I’m launching a writing campaign on behalf of my sanity, and I’m doing it here, and even if no one reads a single word I write, at least I’ll know I’m writing among friends.

Thanks for leaving the door open.

geez- you have been busy. welcome back! I might be making assumptions, but did the panic attack have anything to do with balancing, oh say, EVERYTHING??? It's a wonder we aren't all going from one panic attack to another :) I hope you can find more time to write and keep up with your 2 year old. Maybe you can write about the 2 year old and voila- 2 of the precious items on your list combined!
