I'm a tired, worn-out mother of three young children. I never really fully appreciated what being sleep deprived was like before my children--and I now believe it is a valid form of torture. I live on Long Island with my husband (who I rant about frequently) and three little angels. ;)...

What Made Me Smile Today

Wednesday, October, 29, 2008

Ok, this is one of those things that kind of pitiful but it did make me smile.  Tonight my almost 3 year old daughter was NOT staying in her bed, even after several "last" books were read.  She said that there were monsters and spiders under bed.  I showed her there were none.  She wasn't convinced because "Macky" (aka Zilla) said that there were.  (Remind me to smack him later)

Then Duke needed help with homework, AGAIN.  (See other blog post on my new support group).  So I made a deal with the princess.  Lay on Moms bed which is definitely free of all creepy/scary things and let me go on with all the other needy people in the house.

We had a deal.

I helped Duke with the math problem, told Zilla to get his PJs on, and went to my office and tried to pick up all the toys that were dumped on the floor throughout the day.  Princess came out and started joking with her older brother Duke.  I was at my wits end and sternly yelled, "You need to stay in that bed!"

Her shoulders dropped, the lip curved up, and while the tears welled she marched away and said, "Sowwy Duke, I can't pway wit you wite now."  And she started to cry and go back to my room.

I couldn't help it.... I smiled at her theatrics and went straight behind her to my room.  I laid beside her and she calmed down.  While I brushed her hair away from her face she smiled and said, "I'm happy now Mom-Mom."

So, my night was shot to hell but she went to sleep smiling.  Which is a big deal with me--and probably why I have to sit on the sides of three beds nearly every night hour after hour as they each drift off.....
