I Love October

Friday, October, 24, 2008

Top Ten Reasons Why:

10.  Halloween.  Who doesn't like dressing up, acting silly, and getting candy?

9.  Harvest time.  Riding a hay wagon to pick out your favorite in the pumpkin patch, and returning to fresh apple cider and a popcorn ball.  Carving that fantastic pumpkin you picked out.  Baking the seeds.

8.  Football.  Yes, I know the football season begins long before October, but I don't start paying attention until October.

7.  The fashion.  Sweaters, scarves, hats, boots, and coats.

6.  Visitors.  Someone from far away almost always visits me in October.  Usually it's my sister.

5.  The reading season.  October signals the beginning of what I like to call the reading season.  It's cold and raining by November - perfect cuddled-up-in-a-chair reading conditions, so I stock up on books in October.

4.  The smell.  October smells like trees and fireplaces.

3.  The weather.  Warm and sunny in the daytime, crisp and clear at night.

2.  The kick-off of the holiday season.  As hard as I've tried to be a humbug it just isn't in me.  I love the holidays.  There, I said it.

1.  The colors.  Rich, beautiful, earthy hues.  I get homesick for Ohio in October because I miss the changing leaves.
